"I don't believe in an interventionist God...."

HELP!
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD (AND REASONABLY PRICED) DATA RECOVERY SERVICE IN THE UK?
THE DIAGNOSIS ON MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FROM A MAJOR RETAILER IN THE WORLD OF PCS WAS BAD AND ESTIMATED AT £800 TO RECOVER!
PLEASE LEAVE ANY ADVICE IN COMMENTS - I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT.
(OR IF THERE ARE ANY RICH PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENJOYED THE MIXES AND WANT TO CONTRIBUTE...I AM NOT TOO PROUD TO TAKE THE FILTHY LUCRE!)

Erm...thanks for your support Yoko. Can I take it you will not be giving me a support grant?

To all who responded with anti Yoko sentiments; I am very happy at your concern but would like to stress that 'Yoko' is a actually a friend of mine making fun of me.

I will post her phone number next week so you can all call and say hi. (only joking K)

800 quid is astronomically fucking ridiculous.

HT,

I've had disasters before.

DON'T pay!. Get another HD. Install an OS there with plenty of space to get your data on. A 500g disk is about £40 these days. Then try any of the following:

Dead Disk Doctor
Partition Recovery Enterprise
SpinRite
Partition Table Doctor

If you want assistance with these: just ask.

DONT PAY.

Get a new HD (500g is about £40 these days).

Install an OS. Leave loads of space for data recovery.

Use a programme such as:

Active Partition Recovery
Dead Disk Doctor
Runtime.GetDataBack.for.NTFS.
Partition Table Doctor

These are pretty easy to get hold of on the net.

E-mail if you have any problems.

Thanks to all for the support and ideas.

So you know my 'baby' is in good hands. The company I work for uses an external IT company and I asked one of their guys to have a look at it, he has run it through his magic machine and it looks like data is coming out. (This is the good news).

The bad news is that he is unsure at present if the data is good due to the damage done to the discs.

As he is doing all this free of charge I am resisiting the urge to call him every five minutes with 'any news yet?'. (I did offer to sit bedside while he worked and hold its usb cable but he said it best I stay out of the way.)

So now I am in limbo - the last time I felt this nervous and helpless was when my children were born.
