“We love our audience…”

OK – let’s give this thing another go. It amazes me to think that my tiny part of the world is seen as a threat to the big cats out there. For God’s sake, this blog is created for the love of it by a music fan (and certainly an above average spending consumer) and aimed at likeminded souls.

Speaking of whom – to those who left words of support and asked for invites (if I ever go private), thank you so much for making me realise that there a hell of lot more people coming here and checking out the mixes than I could ever have imagined. When time permits I will get back to you all and promise to re-up any requests.

I would especially like to give a shout out to Seba and his wife – they emailed me to offer support and to say that they played one of my mixes at their wedding in Venezuela which totally blew my mind.

If this all goes tits-up I will certainly go private, so if you want to come play just let me know.

Again – thank you.

"Kiss me where the sun don't shine..."

It is with sad regret that I inform you that The Mixed Up World of Herbal T will be going 'private' as of July 15th 2010 - exactly two years to the day of it's initial posting. I am sick to death of posts being taken down; it has taken all the joy from something that I found a great pleasure in doing - creating mixes for friends.

If you would like an invite to access the 'Private World of Herbal T' please leave a message in comments with your email address - rest assured that none will be posted for others to see.

Alternatively, you can email me - my address will be in comments at the end of this post.

My best wishes go to all the bloggers who have been an inspiration and support to me; in particular Nolan Micron of 'Castles in Space' and JC - 'The Vinyl Villian'. Links to them and a number of other wonderful blogs can be found down the right hand side of this page. ---->

Thanks for your support.

that the cream cannot help but always rise up to the top,

cunts are still running the world,

"...hit it, pause it, record it and play..."

A sad goodbye to Malcolm McLaren; one of the reasons why music has been so much fun for the last 30 odd years. His influence is truly immense. Not only did he 'svengali' the Sex Pistols and ignite the entire UK punk scene after his stint managing the New York Dolls - and subsequent opening of his shop 'Sex' - but he also had a major role in bringing such various genres as Hip-hop, Rap, the 'Burundi Beat', Opera/Waltz House, World Music, BA Arias, Musicals (nearly) and even Voguing (way before Madonna followed suit) to mass attention. The oft used phrase 'Musical Magpie' is still the most appropriate.

A blatant self-publicist, possibly a charlatan, maybe an egomaniac and probably a habitual liar - but most definitely one of the most important people in the history of popular music. And most poignantly to us bloggers in this digital age, wasn't he also spearheading the boombox/Walkman era when we were told that 'home-taping is killing the music industry'? Sound familiar?

Oh - and Duck Rock is still one of the most amazing albums ever made.

Here is 1998s Buffalo Gals go Back to School - which seems to me a fitting tribute as he gets to blab on about himself in between original tracks and hip-hop covers.

1. Buffalo Gals (1)
2. World Famous Supreme Team Show Whbi (1)
3. Bow Wow Wow Show
4. Off The Top
5. Psalms
6. Hey DJ (1)

OK people – I need a favour. If you come here it is because you like music that is a little further across the dial than the chart shows that seem to rule the airwaves (or digital in this case). I have long been a fan of 6MUSIC and it appears that the BBC in their infinite wisdom has decided to pull the plug on this fantastic station - and the Asian Network - in order to save money so we can have more Jeremy Fucking Clarkson instead.

Please – if you already listen to it go http://save6music.comSave 6Music to find out how you can have your say. If you are unaware of the station give it a shot and make up your own mind. You will not be disappointed.

Also – A sad goodbye to Mark Linkhous, Roland S Howard and the fantastic Alex Chilton – thank you for the music.

OK – more grooves for Inner Space Cadets.

ASH RA TEMPLE – QUASARSPHERE
ROLAND S HOWARD – LIFE’S WHAT YOU MAKE IT
TEENGIRL FANTASY – PORTAFINO

WOLFGANG REICHMANN – WUNDERBAR
BATHERS – JUJU PEACH
SPARKLEHORSE – CHAOS OF THE GALAXY-HAPPY MAN
JOHANN JOHANSSON – ESCAPE
GONG – MASTER BUILDER
DELGADOS – NO DANGER (KIDS CHOIR)

Paul Haig Day 2

It is with great pleasure that The Mixed Up World of Herbal T joins in the celebration of the work of Paul Haig, one of the greatest voices of the post-punk - or for that matter - any era.

Credit to JC of The Vinyl Villian for being the catalyst and I do urge you to go check out his fabulous blog. Here is his explanation of how and why...

"For those of you who don't know why a number of us are doing all of this today, it has its genesis in some unhappy times back in Spring 2009 when this and many other blogs were being bombarded with all sorts of dmca notices that led to postings and accompanying mp3s being removed without warning. One such incident on The Vinyl Villain involved a Paul Haig posting and a few days later, completely out of the blue, I received an email from Paul's manager saying that they were both bemused by the whole thing given they were the copyright holders of the track and hadn't made any demands for a takedown. Furthermore, Paul was in fact totally relaxed about bloggers promoting him and his work through making mp3s freely available.

As a way of saying thank you for these words of support, I asked if folk would be interested in designating April 6th as Paul Haig Day when we would collectively write about him and make some songs available. It proved to be a success, and so I thought it worth repeating the venture in 2010."

I offer you the following:

Paul Haig - Atmosphere (Joy Division Cover)

Paul Haig - Theme From The Persuaders

For more info please visit his homepage:

Rhythm of Life

..and when you have listened and like what you hear - support the artist and go buy more of his music, you will not be disappointed.
