HELP!
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD (AND REASONABLY PRICED) DATA RECOVERY SERVICE IN THE UK?
THE DIAGNOSIS ON MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FROM A MAJOR RETAILER IN THE WORLD OF PCS WAS BAD AND ESTIMATED AT £800 TO RECOVER!
PLEASE LEAVE ANY ADVICE IN COMMENTS - I REALLY DO APPRECIATE IT.
(OR IF THERE ARE ANY RICH PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENJOYED THE MIXES AND WANT TO CONTRIBUTE...I AM NOT TOO PROUD TO TAKE THE FILTHY LUCRE!)

"the hands of the clock, coming together at midnight"

DISASTER.
A LITTLE BOY CHASES A KITTEN BEHIND A SOFA.
AS HIS LAUGHTER INCREASES I TURN TO SEE HIM FALL, HIS FOOT CAUGHT IN A CABLE.
A CABLE ATTACHED TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE.
A HARD DRIVE THAT CONTAINS MY MUSIC.
ALL OF MY MUSIC.
FINALLY CATALOGUED AND TRANSFERRED FROM VINYL, CASSETTE AND CD ONTO ONE HARD DRIVE THAT HAS NOT YET BEEN BACKED UP.
LIKE THAT MOST CLICHED OF CINEMATIC MOMENTS, A GHOSTLY SILENCE FILLS THE AIR AS TIME SLOWS TO A CRAWL THE HARD DRIVE FALLS TO THE FLOOR.
A SINGLE 'CRACK'.
"SORRY DAD."
HOW CAN I BE ANGRY?
I PICK UP THE EQUIPMENT AND HOLD IT LIKE A BIRD WITH A BROKEN WING. THE SOUNDTRACK TO MY LIFE - GONE, LIKE TEARS IN RAIN. (THANK YOU RUTGER.)
TODAY - MY HARD DRIVE GOES TO SEE THE TECH' SURGEON FOR A POST MORTEM. SHE IS DEAD, BUT THERE IS A REMOTE POSSIBILTY THAT SOME OF THE MEMORY MIGHT SURVIVE.
WILL KEEP YOU POSTED - AND KIDS, BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR FILES.

“I’M BEING CARRIED DOWNSTREAM ON WAVES OF DELIGHT....”

A FANTASTIC MIX FROM NOLAN MICRON OF MY FAVOURITE BLOG ‘CASTLES IN SPACE’ – A LINK TO WHICH CAN BE FOUND ON THE RIGHT OF THIS PAGE. (PLEASE PAY HIM A VISIT, DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND JUST DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING.)

SPORES IN A VACUUM

“When I was no more than a spotty teenager, I bought a cassette through the classifieds in the NME. A Bowie bootleg called "Bump and Grind Edited Plus". Typed TDK C60 cover and featuring some amazing Bowie tunes, which were at the the time really, genuinely hard to find.
As much as the music though, I also loved the between song clips of stoned hippies being interviewed, advertising jingles and radio speech which I just thought were unbelievably cool. You can see where this is going, can't you. (Rhetorical. No question mark.)It's about the music, mainly, but what we have to say is also so important to me. Its a slow build. The sound of the television talking to no one. The sound of one person alone at the end of the night. Come on Thunder. We are just spores in a vacuum. Hello. Need a hand?”

The Loft - Model Village
The Teardrop Explodes - You Disappear From View (BBC Session)

JOHN PEEL WOULD BE PROUD OF THIS ONE. DO NOT WORRY IF YOU DO NOT LIKE RADIOHEAD (I DON’T), IT IS A FABULOUSLY VARIED MIX OF FREE INTERNET-ONLY MUSIC.

We Are Bulletproof is a compilation made entirely on site by members of ateaseweb.com, a Radiohead fan forum and released as a free internet-only download. This compilation was made by total strangers from all over the world, posters who have never met face to face, and most in fact who don't even know each other's real names. Not one phone call was made, not one introduction. Every file has been embedded in the comments with the artist's website / myspace / email because in case one or more of the songs on here sparks your interest and you'd like to find out more about the musician in question, you'll have a way of contacting them. There are the obvious comparisons to Radiohead ( and I'm sure there will be many ), but from the Beatles influenced track 'Lie' to the orchestrations of Battles that you will find in Harry Burgess' song 'Hold On Forget Me', you'll find that even though we are all fans of Radiohead, we all have our own distinct styles and voices.
We have brought this to you to show you what we can do.
We are Atease.
And we are bulletproof.

"I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks..."

"Oh babe oh I'm sorry
But I had to make love to every crack in the pavement and the shop doorways
And the puddles of rain that reflected your face in my eyes.
The day didn't go too well. Too many chocolates and cigarettes.
I kept thinking of you and almost walking into lamp-posts.
Why's it so hot? The air coming up to the boil;
rubbing up against walls and lamp-posts trying to get rid of it.
Old women clack their tongues in the shade of crumbling concrete bus shelters.
Dogs doing it in central reservations and causing multiple pile-ups in the centre of town.
I didn't want to come here in the first place
But I've been sentenced to three years in the Housing Benefit waiting room.
I must have lost your number in the all-night garage
And now I'm wandering up and down your street, calling you name, in the rain
Whilst my shoes turn to sodden cardboard.
Where are you?"

"See the light, enter the light, become the light and shine - like the star you know you are..."

First an apology - on listening to that last mix from Mixmag for a second time I have to conclude that it was shite. I was lazy posting it and promise it will not happen again. If you actually enjoyed it, good luck to you and please disregard my disclaimer.

Moving on - this compilation is of dance tracks that are guaranteed to get Herbal T on the good foot, anyone who knows me will at some stage seen me jumping around like an idiot to at least one of these tracks. Be prepared for a lot more of this sort of thing in the near future.

So download from the link in comments, pull on your 'Smiley' t-shirt, iron your bandanas, neck some 'disco-biscuits' and play VERY LOUD.

Failing that it is a damn good compilation to do the ironing to.

Herbal T and the Treacherous Three.

"Does your heart go BOOM..."

This is a playlist of songs that my daughter likes – and no she did not go out and buy them herself and yes she does have a Dad who plays her music all the time. I did draw the line on some of her choices so consider yourself lucky not to have to hear ‘Umbrella –ella-ella...’ ‘Dancing Queen’ or ‘Now you’re gone’ by sodding Bassmasters.

My fave ever version of the Velvets song was on my friend @’s answering machine sung with his son. @ and T, this one is for you.

All in all nice and cheerful as it should be if you are six – hope you like it.
SEEKERS – GEORGIE GIRL
VELVET UNDERGROUND – IF YOU CLOSE THE DOOR
RAMONES - BABY I LOVE YOU
LILY ALLEN – LDN
GORILLAZ – DARE
PRIMITIVES - CRASH
SCRITTI POLITTI – SWEETEST GIRL
JULIAN COPE – BEAUTIFUL LOVE
CURE – FRIDAY I’M IN LOVE
PETULA CLARK – DOWNTOWN
MANIC STREET PREACHERS – RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD
DAVID BOWIE – CHANGES
CAMERA OBSCURA – HEY LLOYD I’M READY TO BE HEARTBROKEN
ANTHONY ADVERSE – RED SHOES WALTZ
NEW RADICALS – GET WHAT YOU GIVE
MGMT – TIME TO PRETEND
SCISSOR SISTERS – I DON’T FEEL LIKE DANCIN’
CORAL – DREAMING OF YOU
ASH – PUNK BOY
TING TINGS – THAT’S NOT MY NAME
WHITE STRIPES – HOTEL YORBA
Link is down there in comments (if anyone needs help in getting the file, or opening it just let me know)

"Party People! Can y'all get funky?..."

Post the Disco/Funk explosion of the 70s, and pre Hip-Hop and House there was 'Electro'. - a combination of European synth minimalism and the sounds of black America. The influence on present day culture is astronomical and very apparent but to hear music like this for the first time was truly mind blowing, and in the early 80s opinion was divided - many accused the genre of just 'stealing' the ideas of others and having no artistic merit of its own. Then again, around this time the Musicians Union tried to ban synthesizers - the twats.

In the Herbal T household it is barbeque/party music that the kids like to do the 'robot-dance' to.

This fantastic mix is spread over two parts so you can create CDs (to review only - if you like it please buy it), I have also uploaded the complete mix in case you want to play from digital.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you the magical;

"Tiny tears make up an ocean..."

Hands up and open your veins if you like a good melancholic tune. It's been far too happy here in the mixed up world of Herbal T so let's get the angst in our pants. This mix is a late night special; light a candle, stare at the stars, open a bottle of Jamesons and press play.
(Yeah I know, Terry Jacks version of Season in the Sun is sort of funny but it did fit in quite well.)
As always, the link to download is in the comments (See down below this post? The word 'comments'? Click that, cut and paste the sendspace link and open with winrar - if you need help or have any problems just let me know. Or if you have problems with sendspace I can re-up using another upload site.)

"Let's get together..."

When artists collaborate it usually ends in disaster, yet occasionally the sum is greater than the parts. Now I know some purists will be spitting blood at the sacred likes of the Stone Roses or the Pistols getting messed around with but I do think that the following work quite well. So download and play loud.

DAVID BOWIE VS KLF – THIS IS NOT AMERICA (SANDSTORM MIX)
SCRITTI POLITTI VS SHABBA RANKS – SHES A WOMAN.
SCOTT WALKER/DAVID SYLVIAN – JOBRIATH.
PRIMAL SCREAM – HIGHER THAN THE SUN (ORB EXTENDED)
BRIAN ENO/DAVID BYRNE – JEZEBEL SPIRIT
JOHN MARTYN – SUN SHINES BETTER (TALVIN SINGH MIX)
PHARRELL WILLIAMS VS JULIAN COPE – FRONTSPOTS
JAY Z VS THE VERVE – BITTERSWEET DIRT OFF YOUR SHOULDER
TRUTH HURTS FEAT RAKIM – ADDICTIVE (DIRTY VERSION)
CAPTAIN SENSIBLE VS JAY Z – 99 WOTS
STONE ROSES VS KASABIAN – PROCESSED WATERFALL
KYLIE VS NEW ORDER – CANT GET MONDAY OUT OF MY HEAD
LEFTFIELD VS LYDON – OPEN UP (FULL VOCAL)
SEX PISTOLS VS MADONNA – RAY OF GOB
WOLFMAN AND PETE DOHERTY – FOR LOVERS.
